About Bulan Bahasa

Bulan Bahasa (Malay Language Month) is an annual celebration first launched in 1988 by the Malay Language Council, as an initiative to encourage the Malay community to embrace the Malay language in their daily lives.

Bulan Bahasa 2020 at PCF Sparkletots

The Bulan Bahasa celebrations were held from 1 to 18 September at PCF Sparkletots this year, with the aim of encouraging the use of Malay language amongst the children, teachers and parents, and to involve the children and families in activities related to the Malay culture and heritage.

Children from 40 PCF Sparkletots centres participated in a variety of activities related to the Malay culture and heritage, centred on theme of ‘United in Fortitude, Let’s Strengthen The Wellbeing Fort Together!’/ ‘Tabah Bersatu. Ayuh! Kukuhkan Benteng Kesejahteraaan Bersama.’. The theme is a call to persevere, remain resilient and play our parts in the fight against Covid-19.

Development of Activity Set

The Malay Language (ML) Committee of PCF Sparkletots created and developed an Activity Set, comprising 20 activities ranging from songs and rhymes to poetry and Batik design. Malay Language teachers could select, adapt and utilise suitable activities from the Activity Set to encourage the use of Malay Language in their centres, among the children, parents and staff. They could also involve other non-Malay speaking children, parents and staff in the activities.

Here are the 20 activities available in the Activity Set. These activities are planned around the theme ‘United in Fortitude. Let’s Strengthen the Wellbeing Fort Together!’.
