4 Jan 2025 Press Release: PCF Sparkle Care @ Kreta Ayer Expands To Serve More Seniors In The Community

PAP Community Foundation (PCF) is proud to announce the expansion of PCF Sparkle Care @ Kreta Ayer, marking a significant milestone in enhancing support for Singapore’s ageing population. This expansion, which doubles the centre’s capacity, reaffirms PCF’s commitment to meeting the increasing demand for senior care services in the Kreta Ayer community. It also aligns with PCF’s broader initiative, announced in 2024, to respond to the evolving needs of Singapore’s senior demographic.

Since the opening of the centre in 2018, it has helped over 900 seniors through its programmes in daycare and rehab services. Currently operating at full capacity, the centre will expand from 460 sqm to 870 sqm by October 2025, nearly doubling its capacity from 45 to 85 day care places. This enhancement will enable the centre to offer expanded services – which include Maintenance Day Care and Dementia Day Care, to provide better support for the community’s needs, particularly for those with dementia.

The expansion was announced by MP for the area Mrs Josephine Teo during a visit by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, where he interacted with seniors and staff members at the Centre.

At the event, Mrs Josephine Teo spoke about the government’s commitment to help Singaporeans through the Age Well initiative. She said, “The community should also do our part to help seniors stay active and support families with caregiving needs. Since the establishment of the PAP Community Foundation more than four decades ago, we have done so through our preschool centers and more recently, our Sparkle Care Centres. We believe that the expansion of our SparkleCare Centre @ Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng will be welcome by residents and make a meaningful difference to our seniors’ well-being.”.

Mr Andy Seet, Senior Director (Senior Care Division) at PCF said: “In Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng, we are witnessing a growing number of seniors living with dementia and those who lack family support. The expansion of Sparkle Care @ Kreta Ayer represents a vital step in addressing these pressing care needs. By making care available in the community, we aim to empower our seniors to lead fulfilling lives and age gracefully within the heart of their community.”

This expansion represents a significant step forward in ensuring seniors in Kreta Ayer and beyond have access to essential care services that enhance their quality of life.

Key Goals of the Expansion:

  • Improved Accessibility: Providing more day care places, especially for seniors with dementia, to meet rising demand.
  • Enhanced Quality of Life: Offering personalised care programmes that cater to each senior’s unique needs.
  • Stronger Community Connections: Facilitating intergenerational activities and promoting active aging, fostering meaningful bonds between seniors and younger generations.

Key Features of the Expanded Centre:

  • Engaging Activities that focus on physical, cognitive, therapeutic, and social well-being.
  • New Additions like intergenerational corners to encourage more interaction between seniors and children, and a calming design to promote mental well-being.
  • Personalised Care Plans that are tailored to meet each senior’s individual needs.
  • Staffing will grow, including additional nurses, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists, all undergoing continuous training, to ensure that needs of seniors are met.
