Singapore, 25 November 2017 – PCF Sparkle Care @ Yew Tee was officially opened today by Guest-of-Honour, Mr Lawrence Wong, Chairman of PAP Community Foundation (PCF) Council of Management; and Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance.
With the increased need for senior day care services, PCF’s second senior care centre reaffirms PCF’s efforts to expand quality and affordable senior care services. PCF Sparkle Care seeks to improve the physical, cognitive, emotional and social well-being of the elderly through their combination of holistic senior care services – Day Care, Rehabilitation, and Nursing Care. PCF Sparkle Care incorporates different therapy methods such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy and Intergenerational Programmes to suit their needs.
Highlights of PCF Sparkle Care Holistic Senior Care Services
1. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
The Cognitive Stimulation Therapy is an evidence-based group therapy treatment that is modified by PCF Sparkle Care professional occupational therapists to suit elderly with mild to moderate dementia. The programme was first piloted at PCF Sparkle Care @ Changi Simei as a 16-week programme in March 2017. Due to the positive response, PCF Sparkle Care is looking to run the programme for 24 weeks starting early next year in both their Changi Simei and Yew Tee senior care centres.
2. Intergenerational Programmes
The Intergenerational Programmes conducted at both senior care centres enables the elderly to interact with children from PCF Sparkletots preschools that are located nearby. Some of the joint activities include; arts and craft, and music and dance. PCF Sparkle Care @ Yew Tee
aims to conduct the programme once every month in partnership with PCF Sparkletots @ Limbang and PCF Sparkletots @ Yew Tee.
3. Caregiver Training and Support Programme
In collaboration with healthcare experts and social service agencies, PCF Sparkle Care has piloted Caregiver Training and Support Programme in both centres. The programme includes talks to educate family caregivers on various topics such as Dementia Care, Personal Care, Fall Prevention and Home Safety. It also creates an engaging platform for family caregivers to meet and share their experiences and practical tips. PCF Sparkle Care is working towards implementing this programme on a regular basis for both centres by next year.
At the opening ceremony, Guest-of-Honour Mr Lawrence Wong shared, “The setting up of the PCF Sparkle Care Centre is a significant milestone in PCF’s journey to go beyond its core pre- school services, and cater to the needs of the elderly in Singapore. We started our first senior care centre at Changi Simei two years ago, and we now have this centre at Yew Tee. We have built up capabilities in senior care services, and plan to launch three more PCF Sparkle Care Centres over the next one to two years. We will continue to do more to serve our seniors, and enable them to live and age well”.
During a tour of the centre’s facilities, Mr Lawrence Wong and guests witnessed some of the programmes offered at PCF Sparkle Care @ Yew Tee.
