Children celebrate National Day by showing appreciation to our nation’s unsung heroes
SINGAPORE, 7 August 2017 – Some 69 PCF Sparkletots pre-schoolers aged 2 to 6 years old and their families celebrated Singapore’s 52nd birthday by showing their appreciation to
representatives from the Singapore Police Force, Singapore Civil Defence Force and the National Environment Agency. The event involved pre-schoolers from PCF Sparkletots Preschool at Tampines West (Blk 890A), who crafted specially-made A4-sized cardboard frames, decorated using various materials like paper and sponges – which were then presented to the guests. The children also put up a National Day performance for the guests, as well as a showcase of Singapore-themed projects made from recyclable materials.
Joining them were, Guest of Honour, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, and Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC. The event was held in conjunction with PCF’s participation in the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project initiated by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA). This initiative encourages pre-schoolers to innovate, problem-solve and tap on their unique strengths to help others.
To commemorate National Day, the children displayed their projects of iconic elements of Singapore such as Changi Airport, Singapore Flyer, Vanda Miss Joaquim, Gardens by the Bay, and the Merlion. The projects were made from recyclable materials, which include milk cartons, tissue boxes, paper, cardboard, straws and twigs.
PCF CEO, Mr Victor Bay said, “At PCF Sparkletots Preschools, we are always looking for opportunities for our children to engage with the wider community. We believe that such interactions are essential in developing social awareness and contribute to a holistic learning environment for our children. Important values can also be imparted. As we join all Singaporeans in celebrating National Day, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the many unsung heroes who work tirelessly to keep Singapore safe and clean.”
